Mihai Eminescu prezentat americanilor



Mihai Eminescu presented to the American public in 16,000 pages and 38 volumes. For the first time, 8,000 facsimile manuscripts by Eminescu at The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, on the occasion of the National Culture Day.

On January 18, 2014, at 11 am, RCI New York will celebrate Mihai Eminescu’s birthday and the National Culture Day, with a cultural and academic complex event, “Eminescu – Opus Magnum”.

The event will open with the unveiling of the portrait of Mihai Eminescu, painted and donated to RCINY by the internationally known painter Alexandru Darida.


The symposium “Eminescu – Opus Magnum” will feature the following presentations: “Eminescu: Opus Magnum (by Dr. Doina Uricariu, writer, director of RCI New York), "Hypostases of Eminescu in Nichita Stanescu's Poetry" (Stefan Stoenescu, teacher, writer, translator, Ithaca, New York), "Unknown References by Eminescu to the Schei in Brasov" (M.N. Rusu, critic and literary historian, New York, editor in chief of Lumina Lina magazin), "To Be or not to Be: New Arguments Regarding the Christian Faith in Eminescu's Works" (by Dr. Theodor Damian, writer, President of the Romanian Institute of Orthodox Theology and Spirituality, New York, Professor of Philosophy and Ethics, Metropolitan College of New York), "Eminescu In Search of Lost Time: Between Kantian Melancholy and the Heideggerian Desert" (Dr. Alina Feld, Professor of Philosophy, Long Island University Global, New York), "Patriotic Accents in the Works of Eminescu and his French Contemporaries" (Valentina Ciaprazi, professor of language and French literature, Commnity LaGuardia College, New York), "The Art of Staying Hungry" (Mircea Sandulescu, writer) and "Benedetto Croce's Concept of Sensitive Intuition in the Works of Eminescu, Wagner and Brancusi" (Dr. Doru Tsaganea, professor of mathematics at Metropolitan College of New York).

Special guests to the event are: Mrs. Simona-Mirela Miculescu, Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations, and Mrs. Ioana -Gabriela Costache, Consul General of Romania in New York.
The afternoon will continue with a piano concert of romantic works. Matei Varga will play music by Chopin (Polonaise Heroique, op. 53), Brahms (four pieces from Klavierstucke op. 118), Liszt (romantic music inspired by three sonnets of Petrarch), and Tchaikovsky (January from "The Seasons” cycle, op. 37b).
The well-known translator Adrian G. Sahlean will present the English version of a few Eminescu poems, in his own interpretation and will speak about translating Eminescu into English. The poems will be selected from the volume Mihai Eminescu - Eternal Longing, Impossible Love (2006).

Also, the event dedicated to Mihai Eminescu includes an exhibition entitled "Dintre sute de catarge", reflecting the many directions of visual arts and the impact of Eminescu's poetry on fine arts. The exhibit curated by Viorica Colpacci, Director of “Spiritus” Gallery, will feature naïve religious painting on glass, created by children from the Church of St. Pantelimon in Bucharest, and works by: Viorica Colpacci and Mihai Caranica (sculpture), Iana Bertea (graphic art), Despina Amariutei, Ruxandra Dumitrescu, Mitzura Salgian (painting), Maria Tazlauanu (digital art), Dumitru Dumitrescu (decorative art).
A gallery of portraits of the national poet and enlarged manuscript files will be presented in the Auditorium lobby.

National Culture Day in New York will be marked by the public presentation, in American premiere, of the facsimile edition of "Mihai Eminescu Manuscripts” in 38 volumes, comprising over 16,000 pages. The volumes of this monumental edition are published by the Romanian Academy Press (2004 - 2009), coordinated by Academician Eugen Simion. This edition features 46 volumes containing 8,000 manuscripts of Mihai Eminescu, donated to the Romanian Academy by Titu Maiorescu. Select images from the accompanying DVD set will be played during the event.

ICR New York invited to the event the most important Romanian-American associations which have promoted for decades Romanian and American cultural values: Romanian Institute of Orthodox Theology and Spirituality, Romanian Christian Society “Doina” from New York. The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York thanks those associations and the Romanian Academy for their support.


Ziua de nastere a poetului national Mihai Eminescu si Ziua Culturii Nationale vor fi sarbatorite cu mare fast la sala Auditorium a ICR New York, in data de 18 ianuarie 2014, incepand cu ora 11.00 a.m., printr-un eveniment cultural unic si academic complex, intitulat ”Eminescu - Opus Magnum”.

Evenimentul va debuta cu dezvelirea portretului lui Mihai Eminescu, pe care pictorul Alexandru Darida l-a daruit ICR New York.


Va urma simpozionul „Eminescu - Opus Magnum” la care vor fi prezentate urmatoarele comunicari: „Eminescu: Opus Magnum” (de Dr. Doina Uricariu, scriitor, director al ICR New York), “Ipostaze eminesciene in poesia lui Nichita Stanescu” (de stefan Stoenescu, profesor, scriitor, traducator, Ithaca, New York), “Citate eminesciene necunoscute despre scheii Brasovului” (M.N.Rusu, critic si istoric literar, New York, redactor-sef al revistei Lumina Lina), “To be or not to be: noi argumente cu privire la crestinismul eminescian” (de Dr. Theodor Damian (scriitor, Presedintele Institutului Roman de Teologie si Spiritualitate Ortodoxa, New York, Profesor de Filosofie si Etica, Metropolitan College of New York), “Eminescu in cautarea timpului pierdut: intre melancolia kantiana si pustiul heideggerian” (Dr. Alina Feld, profesor de filosofie, Long Island University Global, New York), “Accente de patriotism in opera lui Eminescu si a contemporanilor sai francezi” (Valentina Ciaprazi, profesor de limba si literatura franceza, LaGuardia Commnity College, New York), “Arta de a ramane flamand” (Mircea Sandulescu, scriitor) si “Conceptul de intuitie sensibila al lui Benedetto Croce in opera lui Eminescu, Wagner si Brancusi” (Dr. Doru Tsaganea, profesor de matematica la Metropolitan College of New York).

La acest eveniment sunt invitati: Ambasadorul Misiunii Permanente a Romaniei pe langa Natiunile Unite la New York, doamna Simona-Mirela Miculescu, si Consulul general al Romaniei la New York, doamna Ioana-Gabriela Costache.

In continuarea evenimentului va avea loc un concert de lucrari selectate din perioada romantismului muzical (Chopin - Polonaise Heroique, op. 53, Brahms – patru piese din Klavierstucke op. 118, Liszt – muzica romantica inspirata din trei sonete de Petrarca, Ceaikovski – Ianuarie din ciclul „Anotimpurile”, op. 37b) in interpretarea pianistului Matei Varga si un recital din poezia lui Mihai Eminescu in limba engelza, in traducerea si interpretarea lui Adrian G. Sahlean.

De asemenea, in cadrul evenimentului dedicat lui Mihai Eminescu va fi prezentata expozitia intitulata “Dintre sute de catarge”, reflectand multiplele directii ale artelor vizuale si impactul operei lui Eminescu asupra artei plastice. Ansamblul de lucrari plastice va fi curatoriat de Viorica Colpacci, directorul Galeriei romanesti “Spiritus”.
Vor fi expuse icoane pe sticla create de copiii de la Biserica Sf. Pantelimon din Bucuresti dar si lucrari ale artistilor: Viorica Colpacci si Mihai Caranica (sculptura), Iana Bartea (grafica), Despina Amariutei, Ruxandra Dumitrescu, Mitzura Salgian (pictura), Maria Tazlauanu (arta digitala), Dumitru Dumitrescu (arta decorativa).
O galerie de portrete ale poetului national si de fotografii inedite insotite de reproduceri, la scara marita, ale filelor de manuscris, dar si imagini ale lucrarilor de arta monumentala romaneasca dedicate poetului, va fi prezentata in holul ce deschide sala Auditorium.
Ziua Culturii Nationale de la New York va mai fi marcata prin prezentarea, in premiera pe teritoriul nord-american, a editiei facsimilate a „Manuscriselor Mihai Eminescu”, care cuprinde 38 de volume ce contin peste 16.000 de pagini. Volumele acestei editii monumentale au aparut la editura Academiei Romane (perioada 2004 - 2009), sub ingrijirea academicianului Eugen Simion. Aceasta editie prezentata in premiera mondiala la ICR New York are la baza cele 46 de caiete ale lui Eminescu care au fost daruite Academinei Romane de catre Titu Maiorescu si contin 8.000 de manuscrise. La eveniment, va fi vizionat un slideshow al manuscriselor prezentate cu acest prilej, printr-o selctie care a folosit DVD-urile ce insotesc volumele.

ICR New York a invitat la evenimentul dedicat poetului national Mihai Eminescu si Zilei Culturii Nationale cele mai importante asociatii romano-mericane care au promovat, de decenii, fiecare cu specificul propriu, valorile culturii din Romania in Statele Unite: Institutul Roman de Teologie si Spiritualitate Ortodoxa din New York si Societatea Romana Crestina „Dorul” din New York. Institutul cultural roman de la New York a realizat acest eveniment in colaborare cu Academia Romana si toate aceste asociatii romano-americane carora doreste sa le multumeasca si pe aceasta cale.
