Recent Publications of the Museum of the Romanian Peasant
 Told by Simina Badica, PhD

The albums and promotional materials dedicated to the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, as well as the books published by the museum, attracted a particular interest at BEA among American visitors, impressed with the uniqueness of this Romanian top cultural institution. These volumes published by NMRP and exhibited at the BEA Romanian bookstand were a preview of this four project presented by RCI NY.

It has been said about the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant that it is a "Romanian miracle". The ICR New York presents a four event series created to help (re)discover this miracle, to understand its influence it had not only on Romanian culture, but also on worlwide museology.

On this occasion, RCI NY has invited Ms.  Simina Badica, researcher and curator of the ethnological archive of MNTR to present this series of events.

Simina Badica will speak at the first event - The visual story of a Romanian Miracle - about the making of the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, from its re-establishment that took place in 1990, until today. Holder of the prestigious EMYA (European Museum of the Year Award), the Museum of the Peasant has inspired European museology after the fall of communism with an innovative and liberating speech. Simina Badica, curator and specialist in museum history, will speak about the singularity of this museum innovation, the specifics of its creation during the troubled years after the fall of communism in Romania and also the continuity and the challenges that the Romanian museums are facing today. The lecture will also feature a virtual tour of the MNTR. The event will take place on June 19 at the ICR New York, Auditorium Hall, at 7 PM.

The second event presented by Simina Badica will consist in a double opening of the exhibitions "In print: the Manakia brothers and Picu Patrut. Recent publications of the Museum of the Romanian Peasant", including images of the most recent publications of the Martor Publishing House of MNTR, "Picu Patrut" and "Look! The Manakia Brothers " (original: "Priveste! Fratii Manakia"). The images will be exhibited in the Auditorium Hall of ICR in New York, and the opening will include the projection of video sequences recorded at the beginning of the twentieth century, in the Balkans, by the Macedo-Romanian Manakia brothers.

Simina Badica will also present some of the most important books published by MNTR (The Museum of the Romanian Peasant, Picu Patrut - Europe's last great miniaturist, Look! The Manakia Brothers, The Traditional Transportation in Romania, Lace and Embroidery). The opening of the two exhibitions will take place at the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, June 20, at 5.00 PM and at 7 PM.

Simina Badica will meet Peter Rushezsky, executive director of "The Center for Traditional Music & Dance New York", to discuss about ethnomusicology, a field of interest for both institutions. The event will take place on June 19 at the ICR New York, and on June 20 at "The Center for Traditional Music & Dance New York".

Muzeul National al Taranului Roman
va fi prezentat la New York!

Recent publications of the Museum of the Romanian Peasant”, cuprinzand imagini din cele mai recente publicatii ale Editurii Martor a MNTR, "Picu Patrut" si "Priveste! Fratii Manakia".

Prin acest proiect, derulat prin patru evenimente distinct, dar aflate in conexiune, ICR New York are in vedere atat stimularea, cat si promovarea valorilor nationale ale culturii si a traditiei romanesti, precum si sustinerea circulatiei valorilor culturii, dezvoltarea de activitati specifice in beneficiul culturii, a civilizatiei nationale si a imaginii Romaniei in lume.
